The Blind Community Center sponsors a variety of activities, all designed to provide members with opportunities for recreation, social interaction, and education. *Taught by San Diego Community College District. In line with district scheduling, there will be no class Monday, Jan. 16, Monday, Jan. 30, or Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Sign up for all activities before the deadline date listed by calling extension 206. Please leave your name, phone number, brief message, and your transportation need.

FEBRUARY SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

Saturday, Feb. 4 • Bingo • noon to 4 p.m.
The cost is $1 per card with a two-card limit. Sign up by Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Sunday, Feb. 5 • Super Bowl Party • 2:30 p.m. to end of game
Join the festivities. Bring a snack for the group to share, and bring $5 for KFC. Sign up by Wednesday, Feb. 1.

Wednesday, Feb. 8 • CD Party • 2 to 5 p.m.
February is the month for romance. Bring your favorite love song or romantic CD to share. All artists and musical styles are appreciated. Sign up by Monday, Feb. 6.

Saturday, Feb. 11 • Valentine Party • noon to 3 p.m.
Join Michele Van Houten of the National Charity League, her family and friends, and Gwendolyn Edwards in a Valentine/friendship party that will include a meal, games, and a chance to be with good friends. Sign up by Tuesday, Feb. 7.

Wednesday, Feb. 15 • Board of Directors Meeting • 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
If you wish to address the board, contact President Aurora Ortiz at extension 204 at least 24 hours before the meeting. Those who need a ride home must sign up by Monday, Feb. 13.

Saturday, Feb. 18 • Memorial for Jerry Wilson • noon to 3 p.m.
Refreshments will be served from noon to 1 p.m. After, members will be invited to share their favorite memories of Jerry. Some of his favorite hymns will also be sung during the ceremonies. Sign up by Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Monday, Feb. 20 • Presidents Day
The center will be closed in observance of the holiday.

Saturday, Feb. 25 • Membership Meeting • 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
There will be a speaker, refreshments, and updates on what is happening at the Center. Sign up by Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Tuesday, Feb. 28 • Cooking with Christie and Social • 2 to 6 p.m.
For this social, bring an ingredient for a salad. We will mix it together for the first part of the activity. After we have enjoyed the salad, we can play board or card games and socialize for the rest of the day. Sign up by Friday, Feb. 24.

MARCH SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

Friday, March 2 • CSUN Conference on Disabilities • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
California State University, Northridge, sponsors this first-hand look at all of the technology available to people of all disabilities. For the blind and visually impaired, the selection ranges from white canes and talking watches to some very high-tech items. BCC will provide transportion to the exhibit hall at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Lunch will be at the Kansas City Barbecue. Free registration for the conference is required to tour the exhibit hall. Bring about $20 for Kansas City Barbecue. Sign up by Monday, Feb. 27.

Saturday, March 3 • Speech Conversion Software Comparison • 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Ten volunteers are needed to help Chinichi Torihara from Keio University in Japan compare his speech onversion software programs to other programs currently in use. Members worked with Mr. Torihara two years ago. Those interested should sign up with Lee at extension 208.
