Aurora Ortiz, the Little Giant of the Blind Community Center, will run in the Carlsbad Marathon for the 16th time on Jan. 22, 2012. Her goal is to raise $25,000 for the BCC transportation fund
Aurora is nearly 70 years young and began running when she was 55. She is legally blind and hearing impaired, but that won't stop her from fulfilling her goal of helping the Blind Community Center.
Many BCC members are unable to use public transportation, because it is not available where they live or when they need it. For these members, our vans are the only way they can enjoy our activities and events.
Transportation costs include insurance, licenses, fuel, maintenance, and repairs. It is one of our biggest expenses. Without transportation, many of our members would not be able to participate in bowling, surfing, waterskiing, fishing, Tuesday night walks, craft classes, CD parties, bingo, membership meetings, or any of the other activities and events the BCC provides.
Please help us by sponsoring Aurora in her efforts to support the Blind Community Center. All donations are tax deductable. We are a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization. Checks can be mailed to:

The 2011 Annual AT&T Pioneer Spaghetti Dinner was a huge success, thanks to Pioneers and other volunteers. The spaghetti was great, bingo was fun, and there were many winners at the opportunity drawing. Cookies, cakes and breads sold by Life Member Pioneers were eaten as quickly as they were sold.
Volunteers worked in the kitchen before, during and after dinner. They cooked and served dinner, escorted and assisted BCC members, washed and dried all the giant pots and sheet pans, cleaned the counters and stove, and emptied the trash. They even made casseroles out of leftovers which were eaten during the craft class lunch program the following Monday and Tuesday. Volunteers also helped BCC members during bingo and the opportunity drawings.
Thank you again to De Anza Chapter 68, San Diego, AT&T Pioneers, who sponsored our dinner and to the De Anza Chapter 68, San Diego, AT&T Pioneer Life Member Club, who sponsored our bake sale. We truly appreciate your support.
